Creating a Vision Board to Fuel your Vision Venture
Setting goals are one thing, but a visual reminder of where those goals lead is an entirely different story. Each year I look forward to setting resolutions and goals, but so often they lose their momentum. Why is that? Maybe it’s because we lose our focus, or maybe it’s because we need more than just written resolutions to help us accomplish big things. We may just need some help visualizing our goals.
Visualization is a Powerful Tool
Visualization is an extremely powerful tool. In fact, it is one of the most powerful mind exercises you can do. Seeing your goals, or where your goals will lead, will inspire you to stay motivated so you are living your “visualized life.”
According to Jack Canfield, visualization accomplishes four things:
- It stimulates your creative subconscious which will start generating creative ideas to achieve your goal.
- It programs your brain to more readily perceive and recognize the resources you will need to achieve your dreams.
- It activates the law of attraction, thereby drawing into your life the people, resources, and circumstances you will need to achieve your goals.
- It builds your internal motivation to take the necessary actions to achieve your dreams.
Olympians and other athletes use visualization to improve performance. There are so many inspirational stories about how people spend time meditating or visualizing what they want to accomplish every day. It works! But what should you visualize or put on your vision board?
First Define Your Success
I recently received an email from a life coach I follow, and she posed the question: What does your success look like? Her list included things like working a few days a week, to taking a big family vacation each year. Each year I identify overall categories that focus on specific financial, work, and health goals, but what isn’t shown is how success in reaching these goals will make me feel.
My savings-based goals will make me feel secure and accomplished. I focus on saving so that in the near future, I can achieve financial freedom. What does this look like on my vision board? My savings goals will (hopefully) equal a vacation each year, purchasing another rental property, and a means to pursuing the hobbies my family loves.
The goals related to work or TwoPhds makes me feel successful. Yes, they do relate to my financial success, but there is a different type of pride in being recognized for my contributions at work and within my own business. But again, how do I show how these make me feel? I have a handful of quotes that always get me motivated to push even harder in my business. For whatever reason, this photo from Barrington gifts gives me that feeling.
It may seem odd, but that’s the great thing about vision boards; it is about how these images and feeling are relevant to you.
Then Create Your Inspiration Boards
Maybe instead we should call vision boards inspiration boards – each time we look at them they should inspire us to keep working toward our vision. You may want to keep this personal, or maybe it is going to be something that you share with everyone.
Which brings me to my next point: where should you display your board so you can see it every day? If you have a work space you are consistently in, this is the perfect place display it.
Here are some terrific ideas for creating your vision board.
But what if you don’t have a dedicated work space? Even though I do have an office, I don’t always use it every day. I do, however, look at my planner daily. I decided to build my vision board digitally and laminate it. I use it as the bookmark in my Plum Paper Planner so that there’s not a day I don’t look at it. This is also something that would be a great phone or laptop background so that you will see it every single day.
We know how important this is, so we want to share free printable quotes and a vision board template for you! Click here to receive them now.
Bonus: Add it to your planner
Mine is officially laminated and in my planner! I used this laminator and these coil clips to use it as a bookmark.
